Moldova's Prime Minister called the arrival of a "Taliban" delegation unacceptable
Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan called the visit to the country by a delegation from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock—which represents the government of the radical Islamist “Taliban” regime—unacceptable. He emphasized that Moldova does not recognize the Taliban government.
According to “European Truth,” Tofan attributed the approval of the visit to a misjudgment of the situation and insufficient coordination among government agencies. According to him, the procedure was formally followed, but this sensitive case was treated as a routine administrative matter without proper political and diplomatic assessment.
The prime minister noted that a Moldovan company, which supplies products to Uzbekistan, had sought support to expand its agricultural exports to Afghanistan. Such exports, he said, are not prohibited by the European Union’s sanctions regime, as the restrictions target specific individuals and organizations, not agricultural trade with Afghanistan in general.

Moldova’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry sent a request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Inspectorate for Migration, and the Border Police. The members of the delegation were not on any sanctions lists, so the border police issued a positive ruling, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs granted them visas.
Tofan stated the need to clarify responsibilities and reform the decision-making process for such matters by introducing clearer rules and mandatory coordination at the political and diplomatic levels. It was previously reported that Moldova had initiated the delegation’s visit following consultations between local agricultural producers and the Ministry of Agriculture regarding the possibility of providing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
