Serbian PM proposes dissolving parliament ahead of early elections
Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut proposed that the government formally ask President Aleksandar Vučić to dissolve the National Assembly and call elections for members of parliament. According to Anadolu Agency, citing Serbian public broadcaster RTS, the government reportedly approved the proposal at an extraordinary session.
Procedure for dissolving parliament
During a parliamentary session, Macut said that, in accordance with the constitution, the government should propose that the president dissolve the National Assembly and call elections for members of parliament. Such a proposal is a necessary procedural step before early parliamentary elections are officially scheduled.
Under the constitution, the president of Serbia must issue a decree dissolving parliament within 72 hours of receiving the government's proposal.

Possible voting dates
Earlier, Aleksandar Vučić said that he would call elections no later than September 9 or 10. According to him, voting could take place on October 18 or 25.
Macut called the upcoming elections an opportunity to strengthen institutions, reduce political tensions and abandon the politics of exclusivity. He also noted that the current cabinet would continue performing its duties until a new government is elected.
According to the prime minister, the end of the mandate does not cancel the government's responsibility to the state. He expressed confidence that the government would continue working according to the defined course.
