The prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda, who had defended Putin, has been accused of bribery
Gaston Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, has been accused of accepting a $6 million bribe in connection with the sale of the superyacht Alfa Nero, which is linked to Russian billionaire Andrei Guryev.
This is stated in a lawsuit filed in a Florida court.
The plaintiff is Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhova, the Russian businessman’s daughter. She claims that the sale of the yacht was arranged at a price that may have been approximately $60 million below market value.
The vessel was anchored off the coast of Antigua after the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine. After U.S. sanctions were imposed on Guryev, the yacht was confiscated.
Gaston Brown has previously made numerous statements that were criticized as pro-Russian, in particular questioning Moscow’s motives in the war against Ukraine.
