The President of Lithuania has endorsed the breakup of the coalition with the far-right party

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda welcomed the decision by the leading political force in the governing coalition to restructure the coalition and end its cooperation with the "Dawn of the Nemunas" party. The Lithuanian leader welcomed the changes in the coalition and supported the move to end the partnership with a political force that has repeatedly been the subject of public debate and criticism.

Nausėda welcomed this decision following the announcement by the Lithuanian Social Democrats to end their cooperation with “Zorya Neman.”

"This is a long-awaited decision. The preconditions for it were not only the recent rhetoric of the leader of “Zorya Neman,” doubts regarding the circumstances of his party’s financing, but also the party’s unconstructive position on laws that are of key importance to Lithuania’s security,” the president noted in a written comment.

"The parties forming the governing coalition may have different views on many issues, but when nothing unites them (...), that is a problem," he added.

Gitanas Nausėda expressed hope that the government reshuffle resulting from this decision would not take long and that he would soon return to addressing pressing issues.

"I am ready for constructive cooperation with the new majority," the president added.

This was reported by LRT.

The Lithuanian president warned that the country cannot be an “island of security.”

Lithuania explained why the war in Ukraine is draining Russia’s resources.

Lithuania has purchased protective equipment against chemical and nuclear threats worth over €300,000.

As a reminder, the Netherlands will join the France-initiated talks on strategic European nuclear and conventional deterrence. The talks aim to strengthen European security and coordinate the defense capabilities of allies.

Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken sharply criticized top European officials for their public comments regarding Europe’s nuclear arsenal.
