The President of Lithuania has vetoed the law on the Port of Klaipėda

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has vetoed a law governing the operation of the Port of Klaipėda due to a provision that potentially allowed nuclear-armed vessels to dock there.

This was reported by LRT.

The reason for the veto was a clause in the document that allowed for the entry of such vessels into the port if it did not conflict with national interests.

Nausėda emphasized that the ban on the presence of weapons of mass destruction, enshrined in the Lithuanian Constitution, is unconditional and allows for no exceptions.

The president proposed amending the legislation to explicitly prohibit nuclear-armed vessels from entering the port of Klaipėda.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense officially announced the purchase of new-generation Giraffe 1X radar stations from the defense contractor Saab.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda signed a law establishing a new military training ground in the Suvalkai Corridor and expanding another training site near the border with Russia. The decision is explained by the need to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and contribute to NATO’s collective security.
