The President of Romania has prepared alternative candidates for the position of prime minister
Romanian President Nicușor Dan has a contingency plan in case Parliament does not approve Eugen Tomac’s nomination for prime minister.
According to the publication, if the vote on Tomac’s technocratic government fails, the head of state is prepared to propose other candidates for the position of prime minister to parliament.
Among the possible contenders is Radu Burnete, the president’s economic advisor. He has previously been considered one of the leading candidates for the prime minister’s post. Burnete could also join Tomac’s government as deputy prime minister and minister of economy.
Sources also name current Finance Minister Alexandra Nazare as another possible candidate.
According to Digi24’s sources, during consultations with political forces, Nicușor Dan emphasized that even if Tomac’s nomination fails, he would like to see a person who does not represent any of the parliamentary parties in the role of prime minister.
The approval of the new government requires the support of at least 233 members of the Romanian Parliament.
