The President of Romania has called a meeting in response to the incident involving marine drones in Constanța
On Saturday, June 6, Romanian President Nicușor Dan convened a working meeting following the incident involving the explosion of maritime drones in the port of Constanța and off the Black Sea coast.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. at the headquarters of the 243rd Radio-Electronic and Surveillance Brigade “Calatis” in Constanta.
Representatives of agencies responsible for national security and defense will participate.
During the meeting, the following is planned:
- an analysis of the circumstances surrounding the incident involving the maritime drones;
- assess the impact of the incident on national and regional security;
- discuss measures to strengthen defense capabilities along the Black Sea coast;
- developing solutions to improve surveillance and response systems.
The meeting will also focus on strengthening capabilities for monitoring and preventing incidents in the Black Sea region.
Following the meeting, the President of Romania plans to hold a press conference, during which he may announce additional decisions regarding the response to the incident.

The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Constanta Court of Appeal in Romania launched a criminal investigation on Friday following the explosion of a maritime drone in a local port. Law enforcement officials are investigating the circumstances of the incident and the origin of the drone.
Romania is rapidly strengthening its military through a contract with Rheinmetall.

During the Russian strike on the Odesa region on April 25, Russian drones were moving along the border with Romania. British aircraft patrolling Romanian airspace tracked their routes. Later, drone debris was found in border areas of Romania.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador over the incident involving a drone crash near the city of Galați.
