SAFA President Jordaan declares support for Infantino

In Midrand, South Africa, South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan, after being re-elected for a fourth term, said that the organization supports FIFA President Gianni Infantino. As TimesLIVE reports, Jordaan defeated Sandile Zungu at the electoral congress at Vodaworld.

Voting results

According to election officials, Jordaan received 157 votes, while Zungu received 82. If Jordaan completes his new four-year term, he will be 79 years old.

Zungu accepted the voting outcome, although he said that the process of verifying delegates' credentials was not flawless. He noted that representatives of FIFA and COSAFA were present at the congress and that taking part in attempts to ridicule what happened would not be in his interests.

Support for Infantino

Explaining his support for Infantino, Jordaan spoke about private investment and equity capital in football. He cited the example of La Liga, 20% of which, according to him, belongs to a private investment company. He also mentioned French and English football, where some clubs are wholly owned by corporate structures.

At the same time, Jordaan said that he disagrees with the lack of consultations and agreements with FIFA members. He also supported the progress that SAFA, according to him, has achieved over the past four years.

After his defeat, Zungu said that he had not yet decided whether he would run again. He plans to consider his next steps after an intensive campaign and said that he will continue to serve as president of AmaZulu FC and work on the development of youth football.
