President Trump nominates John Coale as hostage affairs envoy — Anadolu Agency
US President Donald Trump has nominated his current envoy to Belarus, John Coale, for the position of Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs with the rank of ambassador. This was reported by Anadolu Agency, citing Trump’s statement on Truth Social.
Coale’s work in the region
Trump described Coale as an experienced lawyer and a successful envoy to Belarus. According to the president, over the past year, Coale secured the return from Belarus of more than 65 Americans and citizens of allied countries. Trump also claims that he helped negotiate the release of more than 800 political prisoners in the region.
US President said that in his new position, Coale will work to bring American citizens home.

Adam Boehler’s new role
Trump also noted the work of Adam Boehler, the special envoy for hostage response. According to the president, Boehler helped bring home 196 hostages. He will move to a new position and will continue to assist on other matters as a senior adviser.
The Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs was established in the United States in 2015 by presidential order. It coordinates the diplomatic strategies of federal agencies to return US citizens held hostage by non-state actors or wrongfully detained by foreign governments.
