Mexican President Sheinbaum announces security plan for Morelos — Mexico News Daily
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a special security plan for the state of Morelos following the murder of two teenagers who attended High School No. 2 of the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos. The incident occurred early Sunday in Cuernavaca, the state capital, and another young man was injured.
Federal support for the state
Sheinbaum said that federal authorities would coordinate with Morelos Governor Margarita González Saravia to determine the support needed. According to her, Interior Minister Rosa Icela Rodríguez has already contacted university head Viridiana Aidée León Hernández to establish the needs of the university community.
The president also said there was a need to contact the rector and students to introduce additional preventive measures. As Mexico News Daily reports, seven students connected to the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos have been killed in Morelos since April 2025.

Crime and police work
Those killed included Spanish exchange student Claudia Tacoronte. She was killed on September 12 in Cuautla after becoming the victim of a robbery. According to the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, the number of intentional homicides in the state is declining, while the number of thefts is rising.
Cuernavaca Mayor José Luis Urióstegui Salgado acknowledged that the municipal security strategy had not produced results. He said police patrols had become less visible and criminals were taking advantage of this. The mayor instructed security services to step up their work, will consider strengthening police operations, and did not rule out personnel changes in the security leadership if there are no results within two weeks.
