Israel’s attempt to kill Ali al-Amoudi may have failed — Anadolu Agency
Israel’s attempt to kill senior Hamas official Ali al-Amoudi during an airstrike on Gaza City in Palestine was likely unsuccessful. Anadolu Agency reported this, citing Israeli assessments.
Israeli media assessments
Israeli Army Radio reported on the evening of October 4 that assessments leaned toward the conclusion that the attempt to kill al-Amoudi had failed. He was described as a prominent representative of Hamas’s political wing in Gaza. Channel 12 said it was still too early to draw final conclusions, but Israel had been unable to obtain confirmation of the strike’s success several hours after the attack.
Earlier, Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported that the Israeli army had attempted to kill al-Amoudi overnight from Friday to Saturday. The broadcaster described him as the de facto head of Hamas in Gaza and one of the leading candidates for the movement’s formal leadership in the enclave during anticipated secret internal elections.
Strike casualties
KAN, citing reports from Gaza, said that five people were killed in the strike, but al-Amoudi’s name was not among the dead. His fate remained unknown at the time of publication.

A medical source said that five Palestinians, including four women, two of whom were Christians, were killed in an Israeli strike on an apartment in a residential building in western Gaza City. Six more people were injured. Those killed were named as Maysa Abu Daoud, 55, her daughter Maria Abu Daoud, 36, Yasmin al-Bubu, 48, Hallum al-Bubu, 23, and Bilal Ali Uda, 20.
Al-Amoudi’s status in Hamas
Hamas sources told Anadolu that before the start of the war on October 8, 2023, al-Amoudi headed the movement’s media department and was a member of its political bureau. According to them, after the deaths of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and his deputy Rawhi Mushtaha in 2024, he became deputy to Khalil al-Hayya.
After al-Hayya was elected head of Hamas’s political bureau in July 2026, al-Amoudi assumed interim leadership of the movement in Gaza until a successor is elected, the sources added. Gaza’s Health Ministry said that, as of Thursday, Israeli violations of the ceasefire in force since October 10, 2025, had resulted in the deaths of 1,439 Palestinians and injuries to 5,052 people.
