Manzhouli checkpoint in China records 753,000 trips by Russians
The Manzhouli checkpoint in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China has processed 753,000 trips by Russian travelers since a trial visa-free regime for holders of ordinary Russian passports came into force. This is 51.2% more than in the corresponding previous period, ECNS reports, citing the Manzhouli immigration inspection station.
The regime has been in effect since September 2025
The trial visa-free regime came into force on September 15, 2025. Since then, Russian-speaking staff have been deployed at the checkpoint to assist travelers.
According to the inspection station, processing efficiency has increased by almost 50%, while the average time required to pass control has been reduced to less than three minutes.

Online cards and terminals
To simplify the procedure, the checkpoint introduced online arrival card submission, self-service terminals, and bilingual instructions.
In May, China and Russia — an aggressor state — agreed to extend the visa-free regime until December 31, 2027. As ECNS notes, the decision is expected to stimulate cross-border tourism, trade, and people-to-people contacts through the Manzhouli checkpoint.
