Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to its lowest level since the start of his presidency
Support for U.S. President Donald Trump has dropped to 34%, the lowest level since his inauguration in January 2025.
This is according to the results of a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted in late April 2026. By comparison, at the start of his term, 47% of Americans approved of the president’s actions, and in mid-April, that figure stood at 36%.
Analysts cite the sharp rise in the cost of living amid the war against Iran, launched by the U.S. and Israel on February 28, as the key factor behind the drop in popularity. Only 22% of respondents are satisfied with Trump’s economic policies regarding gasoline prices and other essential goods. The poll surveyed over a thousand American adults nationwide with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
The decline in domestic support is occurring in parallel with the White House’s foreign policy activities, notably King Charles III’s historic visit and efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. The future trajectory of Trump’s approval rating will depend on the administration’s ability to stabilize energy prices and resolve the conflict in the Middle East. Amid these developments, the U.S. also continues to provide systematic assistance to Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.
Prior to this, Donald Trump’s approval rating had dropped to a critical 36%, a significant decline from the start of his term, when the U.S. president had 47%.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has emerged as the leading conservative contender for the upcoming presidential election.
