Russia is expanding its economic presence in Tanzania through logistics and energy
Russia is stepping up its economic expansion in Tanzania, strengthening its presence through logistics, trade, and energy projects.

The Russian logistics company FESCO, part of Rosatom, delivered the first shipment of containers to the port of Dar es Salaam—one of East Africa’s key logistics hubs.
The first shipment of industrial goods arrived from Novorossiysk via the Indian port of Nava Sheva. In the opposite direction, regular shipments of Tanzanian tea and coffee to Russia are planned.
According to industry publications, trade between Russia and Tanzania grew by 20% in 2025, reaching $200 million. Russia supplies grain, fertilizers, and agricultural machinery, while importing agricultural products.
At the same time, Moscow is stepping up official negotiations with Tanzania on economic cooperation. The parties are discussing the conclusion of a bilateral investment agreement.
Russia is showing particular interest in the country’s energy sector. Gazprom has stated its readiness to implement gas projects and supply technology and equipment for gas production and transportation. Novatek has also announced its participation in relevant projects.
In this way, Russia is attempting to consolidate its influence in a strategic region of Africa by expanding its economic presence as it seeks new markets and logistics routes.
As a reminder, the Russian African Corps is retreating from cities in Mali following a jihadist offensive.
Units of the so-called African Corps of the Russian Ministry of Defense have left the strategically important city of Kidal in Mali. The withdrawal took place amid an unprecedented attack by Tuareg rebels and Islamists on several regions of the country simultaneously.
