Russia plans to halt the transit of Kazakh oil to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline as early as May 1.

This was reported by Reuters.

According to sources, updated supply schedules have already been shared with the parties involved.

This refers to the northern branch of the pipeline, through which Kazakh oil is transported to Germany via Poland. In 2025, transit volumes rose to over 2.1 million tons, a 44% increase from the previous year.

This oil is supplied to one of Germany’s largest refineries in the city of Schwedt, which switched to alternative feedstock instead of Russian oil after 2022.

Moscow’s decision comes amid strained relations with Germany following the start of a full-scale war against Ukraine.

In addition, the stability of supplies was affected by drone attacks on pipeline infrastructure within Russian territory.

Key technical tests of the Druzhba oil pipeline system, which was damaged in January, are scheduled for Tuesday. The resumption of its operation is linked to the release of financial aid to Ukraine from Hungary.

Hungarian election winner Péter Magyar made a high-profile statement regarding the resumption of operations on the Druzhba oil pipeline and addressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The politician emphasized that the issue of energy supply should not be subject to political pressure and called for the unblocking of Russian oil transit.
