Rheinmetall and Deutsche Telekom will collaborate on drone defense
The German defense conglomerate Rheinmetall, together with the telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom, is launching a joint project to develop systems to protect against potential drone attacks and cyber threats.
The companies plan to combine technologies in the fields of communications, cybersecurity, and aerial target detection to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure in Germany. The project is currently in the early stages of development.
This was reported by Spiegel.
Rheinmetall and Deutsche Telekom have joined forces to develop technical solutions for protection against hostile drones and countering cyberattacks. The project is currently in its initial phase.
The goal is to create a system for the early detection of enemy UAVs and mechanisms to jam them using electronic warfare means, as well as systems that will work in conjunction with interceptor drones and, possibly, the latest laser weapons—to protect the country’s strategic facilities.
As part of the project, Deutsche Telekom will contribute its expertise in communications and digital technologies, while Rheinmetall will focus on radars and jamming systems.
In addition, Deutsche Telekom, in collaboration with the Bundeswehr University in Hamburg, is seeking solutions to detect hostile drones controlled via the national mobile network. The project with Rheinmetall will also include this aspect.
