Trump's decision has put U.S. diplomats in Kyiv at risk — Reuters
Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink stated that Donald Trump’s decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine has created risks for U.S. Embassy personnel in Kyiv. According to her, this move has put not only Ukrainians but also American diplomats working in the Ukrainian capital at risk due to the deteriorating security situation.
This was reported by Reuters.
As Brink noted, the suspension of supplies and intelligence sharing occurred immediately after a dispute between Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Trump at the White House in February 2025. Among the weapons provided by Washington were air defense systems that helped protect not only Ukrainians but also U.S. embassy personnel from Russian drones and missiles.
“I had 1,000 people, all civilians, on the ground. And we were being defended by Ukrainians using American and other equipment,” she says.
According to the former diplomat, the military aid was cut off without warning. “When we tried to find out why it was stopped, we didn’t get any answer,” Brink noted.
The former ambassador noted that she reached out to the Pentagon, the State Department, and the White House—“everywhere we possibly could.” “We were very concerned about what this meant not only for Ukrainians but also for our own security,” she says.
Brink emphasized that she and her team had to spend a long time behind the scenes persuading the Trump administration to unblock the arms shipments. Deliveries resumed on March 11, 2025, but Brink never received an official explanation for the freeze. Just a month after the incident, Bridget Brink resigned due to disagreements with Trump’s policy toward Ukraine and later announced her intention to run for the U.S. Congress as a Democrat.

Trump also confirmed the U.S. intention to intervene in Cuba.
