Rolls-Royce advances deal for 18 engines for Philippine Airlines — MyJoyOnline

In the United Kingdom, Rolls-Royce is advancing a deal to supply Philippine Airlines with 18 engines for nine long-haul Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. Its value is estimated at hundreds of millions of pounds sterling, but the exact amount has not been disclosed, MyJoyOnline reports, citing the BBC.

Engines and maintenance

The aircraft are to be equipped with Trent XWB-97 engines. Once the deal is finalized, it will also include a maintenance package: Rolls-Royce will service the engines and monitor their operation throughout their service life.

The Trent XWB-97 can operate on a fuel blend containing up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel. In the future, the engine is planned to operate on 100% such fuel.

Agreements and production

This order was first announced in July as a memorandum of understanding at the Farnborough International Airshow. At the time, Rolls-Royce President of Civil Aerospace Rob Watson said the company was proud to continue and strengthen its long-standing relationship with Philippine Airlines.

This order followed an earlier order by Philippine Airlines: in 2023, the airline ordered nine Airbus A350-1000 aircraft with Trent XWB-97 engines. The British government welcomed the agreement, saying it would help create high-quality jobs at Rolls-Royce's facility in Derby. Airbus designs and manufactures wings for all its commercial aircraft at its facility in Broughton, North Wales.
