Russia is preparing strikes against Southern Europe using drones from its shadow fleet
Russia is preparing for possible attacks on Southern European countries using "Gerber" drones, which can be launched from ships in its shadow fleet in the Mediterranean Sea. The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) learned of these plans and subsequently informed the governments of European countries.
According to a source close to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, the drones can be launched directly from the sea, concealed inside cargo containers. He noted that organizing such an operation is not particularly difficult.
British military analyst Keir Giles suggests that airports, military facilities, and other infrastructure could be potential targets of such attacks. Russia could use drones to disrupt airport operations, start fires, or conduct reconnaissance over military facilities, as well as to demonstrate its ability to strike deep within European territory.
