Russia has stated that it will respond to Hungary’s decision to expel 10 Russian diplomats. Officials in Moscow have promised that the response will be “harsh and painful.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Hungary’s foreign minister announced the decision to expel 10 staff members of the Russian embassy in Budapest.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán announced on September 8 that 10 members of the Russian diplomatic mission had been engaging in activities in Hungary that “are unacceptable for diplomats” under the Vienna Convention, and therefore they would be expelled.

At the same time, the minister emphasized that this decision does not mean a severing of diplomatic relations with Russia.

This was reported by Russian propaganda media.

Hungary is expelling ten Russian diplomats from the country, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to expel two military attachés from the Russian Embassy in Rome. According to Italian officials, the diplomats are believed to be involved in espionage activities on behalf of Moscow.
