Russian TV provided almost no coverage of the massive drone attack on Moscow

Russia’s federal television channels virtually ignored the large-scale drone attack on Moscow and the Moscow Region that took place on the night of June 18, 2026.

Although even Russian sources described the strike as one of the largest since the start of the full-scale war, the Russian Federation’s central media outlets paid minimal attention to the event.

According to media reports, the aggressor country’s main state-run TV channels shifted the focus of their news broadcasts, concentrating instead on a bus accident in the Bryansk region and reports of combat operations.

The “Rossiya 1” television channel limited itself to a brief report about the alleged downing of 180 drones and an attack on the Moscow oil refinery.

At the same time, the broadcast made no mention of damage to residential buildings, a shopping center, and other civilian facilities, as reported by Russian sources.

For its part, “Channel One” devoted about 20 seconds of airtime to the event. Viewers were not shown any photos or videos of the aftermath of the attack, and after a brief mention, the anchors quickly moved on to stories about the Russian army’s strikes on Ukraine.

In its first morning news broadcast, NTV did not report on the attack on the Russian capital at all.

It was not until 10:00 a.m. that the anchors briefly mentioned official statements about “downed UAVs” and reported on temporary restrictions on takeoffs and landings at Moscow airports.

The massive attack on Moscow was one of the largest in recent years, yet Russian federal media effectively avoided detailed coverage of its consequences.

According to analysts, this information policy may indicate the Russian authorities’ desire to minimize public outcry and conceal Moscow’s vulnerability to air attacks, as well as to downplay the actual extent of the damage in the Russian capital.

The large-scale drone attack caused serious disruptions at Moscow’s airports. A total of 527 flights were canceled or delayed, marking one of the largest aviation disruptions since the start of the full-scale war.

In Balashikha, near Moscow, local residents are reporting unusual effects of the rain—black, oily stains with a burning smell are left on clothing, cars, and other surfaces.

In five cities in the Moscow region, 16 people sustained injuries of varying severity as a result of falling debris and the chaotic response of Russian air defenses during the drone attack.

The Russian State Duma has responded to the record-breaking attack on Moscow.

The massive drone attack on Moscow sparked a wave of outrage and division across Russia’s regions.

Madyar pointed out the inscription on the drones that attacked the Moscow Oil Refinery for the third time.
