Rubio confirmed Washington's readiness to mediate between Ukraine and Russia — Fox News

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration remain fully committed to facilitating a diplomatic resolution to the war in Ukraine.

Washington is expressing hope for a swift resumption of dialogue between the parties to the conflict to achieve a lasting peace.

In an interview with Fox News, the head of the U.S. State Department commented on the latest signals from the Kremlin regarding a possible end to hostilities.

He emphasized that the U.S. is closely monitoring Moscow’s rhetoric and is ready to take active steps in the diplomatic arena.

“We are ready, the president is ready, his team is ready to facilitate a diplomatic end to the war,” Marco Rubio noted, highlighting the head of state’s personal involvement in the peace process.

At the same time, he acknowledged that the momentum of the negotiations has slowed significantly in recent times.

According to the Secretary of State, the “momentum” of the negotiations has been somewhat lost due to a number of factors affecting both sides’ confidence in their own capabilities.

Rubio explained that the situation on the front lines and economic factors are creating difficult conditions for resuming direct contacts.

“Ukrainians are feeling increasingly confident in their positions on the battlefield; they have survived the winter; the Russians are feeling a certain optimism because oil prices have risen,” he elaborated on the current state of affairs.

Despite these challenges, official Washington is counting on a shift in approaches in the near future.

Rubio hopes that regardless of the motives behind the Russian leadership’s statements, the parties will eventually return to the negotiating table with U.S. support.

“But, hopefully, whether it’s because of Vladimir Putin’s statement or something else, we hope that soon we will reach a point where both sides resume dialogue,” the Secretary of State said.

He also added that the U.S. has a unique role in this process.

Marco Rubio is convinced that the United States remains the only power capable of effectively fulfilling the role of mediator.

According to him, both Kyiv and Moscow have repeatedly pointed out the crucial importance of American mediation in resolving this global conflict.
