Rubio and Rutte discussed preparations for the NATO summit in Turkey and the expansion of defense production

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met in Helsingborg, Sweden, to discuss preparations for the Alliance’s July summit in Turkey.

Marco Rubio announced this on the X platform.

According to the U.S. Secretary of State, during his conversation with the NATO Secretary General, he emphasized that at the upcoming summit in Ankara, the Alliance must commit to rapidly increasing defense production.

The United States also expects allies to intensify cooperation in expanding the defense industrial base and transforming financial defense commitments into real military capabilities.

“A stronger Europe means a stronger NATO,” Rubio stated.

Washington emphasizes that enhancing the defense capabilities of allies is a key element of the Alliance’s security and its long-term deterrence strategy.

At the NATO summit in Ankara on May 22, they plan to discuss U.S. President Donald Trump’s “disappointment” with the Alliance. This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, noting that this issue will be one of the items on the meeting’s agenda.

And Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the NATO leaders’ summit, to be held in Ankara on July 7–8, will be one of the key events for the future of the Alliance and the entire international security system.
