Romania scrambled F-16 fighter jets in response to Russia’s attack on Odesa region
On the night of 22 November, Romania scrambled a pair of F-16 fighter jets in response to a massive Russian drone attack on the Odesa region.
This was reported by the press service of the Romanian Ministry of Defence.
“Two F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets were scrambled on the night of 21–22 November from the 86th Air Base to monitor the air situation on the border with Ukraine in the context of attacks carried out by the Russian Federation near the river border with Romania,” the ministry said.
According to the Romanian Ministry of Defence, at 01:33, the Ro-Alert system warned residents of northern Tulcea County after an increase in attacks and the appearance of drones in the Izmail area were detected.
No drone incursions into Romanian airspace were reported, and both F-16s returned to the 86th Air Base in Borcea at 03:42.
“We are in constant contact with our allies, exchanging operational information in real time and acting decisively to ensure the security of Romania and NATO’s eastern flank,” the defence ministry added.
