Sandu Responded to the Question of Whether Moldova Could Forcefully Reclaim Transnistria

Moldova does not consider a military solution to the Transnistrian conflict and remains committed exclusively to the peaceful reintegration process. This was stated by the country’s President, Maia Sandu, during her speech at the “Ukraine–Southeast Europe” summit in Kyiv.

She emphasized that Chisinau has repeatedly reaffirmed its position that a military solution to this problem is unacceptable. Despite Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the Moldovan authorities have managed to maintain stability and peace in the Transnistrian region.

Currently, the country’s leadership continues to work actively to resolve economic and security issues, while systematically advancing the process of peacefully restoring the territorial integrity of the state.

As a reminder, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned its citizens about heightened checks, interrogations lasting several hours, and instances of coercion to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense when attempting to enter Russian territory.

Moldova wants to use peace talks with Russia to regain Transnistria.
