Saudi authorities have denied reports of a possible suicide bomber at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Security authorities said they had detained a man for harassing passersby and spreading fear and panic among them, Anadolu Agency reports.
Security authorities’ statement
In a statement on the X platform, security authorities in the holy capital reported the detention of a person who was harassing passersby and spreading panic. According to them, measures were immediately taken against the detainee. The authorities also said that circulating claims about the incident were untrue.

Claims on social media
Earlier, reports circulated on social media claiming that a suspected suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt had approached the Kaaba and was later detained by security personnel. The Kaaba is a cube-shaped stone structure at the center of the Grand Mosque and Islam’s holiest shrine. The Saudi authorities’ statement did not provide further details about the detainee.
