Saudi Arabia and Serbia expand cooperation in energy and technology — Asharq Al-Awsat
In Belgrade, Serbia, Saudi Arabia and Serbia signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports. The document was signed by Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric during a meeting last week.
As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, the sides also discussed joint projects in energy, cooperation in information and communication and advanced technologies, agriculture and the food industry. They also separately discussed a more active presence of Serbian companies in the Saudi market and increased Saudi investment in Serbia.
New initiatives and Saudi Food
More than 50 Serbian companies are expected to take part in the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah this month. The participants in the meeting also launched three joint initiatives: Digital Non-Aligned, a Non-Aligned Movement film festival, and an international seminar for young diplomats from the movement’s member states.

The initiatives were timed to mark the 65th anniversary of the first Non-Aligned Movement conference, held in Belgrade in 1961. Saudi Arabia was among the countries that took part in that founding conference.
EXPO and trade growth
Serbia’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Dragan Bizenic, called the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh an important avenue for deepening bilateral relations. He also said that Saudi Arabia has already signed a contract to participate in EXPO 2027 and will have one of the largest national pavilions near the entrance to the exhibition grounds.
According to the ambassador, trade turnover between Serbia and Saudi Arabia stood at $121 million at the end of 2025, nine times higher than in 2012. In the first half of 2026, it reached $130.4 million, 152% more than in the same period of the previous year.
