Senator Tillis criticizes Trump Jr. over Russian oligarch’s gift — The Hill
In the United States, Republican Senator from North Carolina Thom Tillis criticized Donald Trump Jr. for accepting a wedding gift from Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev. As The Hill reports, in an interview with CNN, Tillis called the move extremely unwise and said it looked bad.
Calls for an investigation
Tillis said he would like to hear Trump Jr.'s explanation of why tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars from an oligarch were spent on the wedding. He also said he was leaving it to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley to determine the procedure for possibly calling the president's son to testify.
Earlier, Republican Senator John Curtis asked the Senate Judiciary Committee to subpoena Trump Jr. in connection with the case. His position was supported by Senator John Cornyn. Tillis also spoke in favor of launching an investigation in the committee after the midterm elections.

Wedding details
According to ProPublica, Kremlev, who has ties to Vladimir Putin, the president of the Russian Federation — an aggressor state — substantially financed and attended the Caribbean wedding of the eldest son of the U.S. president and Bettina Trump. In a conversation with CNN, Tillis said that Kremlev's wealth amounts to between $300 million and $400 million.
The U.S. president previously stated that his son reimbursed Kremlev for the cost of the gift. In an Instagram post, Bettina Trump said that after the wedding, Kremlev organized two evenings of celebrations for the couple, and stated that friendship does not necessarily have a political motive and generosity does not always imply a hidden agenda.
