Moldovan President Sandu says AI is used in Russian propaganda — Interia

Moldovan President Maia Sandu, during a visit to Helsinki, Finland, said that new artificial intelligence technologies are making it easier for Russia to spread false messages that appeal to public fears. She said this in an interview with Finnish television channel Yle, Interia reports.

Manipulation of social divisions

According to Sandu, the Russian Federation, an aggressor state, uses information influence as the most radical form of persecution. She stressed that Russian propaganda is becoming increasingly sophisticated and that no country should underestimate it.

The Moldovan president believes that Russia's information campaign is not necessarily built on opposing Russia and the West. Its goal, Sandu said, is to exploit existing lines of social division in the countries Moscow seeks to influence.

Anti-European sentiment in Moldova

Sandu noted that key messages of Russian propaganda include claims about the state's inability to protect its citizens or the incompetence of local politicians. In Moldova, she said, the Kremlin is fueling anti-European sentiment.

Moldova submitted its official application to join the European Union on March 3, 2022, a few days after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The document was signed by Sandu, who is currently serving her second term as Moldova's president.
