Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in London, United Kingdom, where he will make a two-day stop before traveling to New York for the high-level meeting of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. This was reported by Dawn, citing a source in the Pakistani prime minister’s office.

Trip to New York

According to the publication’s source, Sharif is expected to depart for the United States on Saturday to attend the General Assembly session. He is expected to return to Pakistan on September 27 or 28 afterward and may stop in London again for one or two days.

A source in the Pakistani prime minister’s office explained the choice of London by the length of the journey from Pakistan to the United States.

Speech and meetings

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Shehbaz Sharif’s address to the UN General Assembly is scheduled for September 25. On the sidelines of the session, he is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and take part in high-level events.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers and senior government officials will travel to New York with the prime minister. The Foreign Ministry said Sharif will present Pakistan’s position on regional and global developments and outline the country’s priorities at the UN.

The theme of the 81st session is “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A UN for All.” The general debate is due to run from September 22 to 26, with the concluding meeting scheduled for September 28. According to Dawn, topics of discussion may include the war between the United States and Iran, including the security of the Strait of Hormuz, regional stability and the search for a diplomatic way out of the confrontation. The Pakistani prime minister is expected to speak about the country’s efforts toward a peaceful settlement of the war.
