Storm in Finland leaves 6,000 households without electricity — YLE News
In Finland, an autumn storm caused power outages and damage-response operations in different parts of the country. At around 7:30 a.m., approximately 6,000 households remained without electricity, YLE News reports.
Severe weather stronger than forecast
According to YLE meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander, precipitation and wind gusts were stronger than expected. The cyclone had been forecast to deepen overnight, but it intensified more than predicted. The meteorologist noted that such weather conditions can be considered stormy.
Since early morning, heavy rain and wind gusts have been observed primarily in North Ostrobothnia, Kainuu and southern Lapland. In the sea near the city of Raahe, on the coast of North Ostrobothnia, a wind gust of 28 metres per second was recorded in the morning.

Dangerous wind warning
Oulu received 25 millimetres of precipitation over the past 12 hours. Lohtander estimated that damage could occur in the Raahe, Siikajoki and Oulu areas in the coming hours.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute issued a dangerous wind warning for North Ostrobothnia and Kainuu. Toward the evening, precipitation and wind are forecast to weaken and move beyond Finland.
