Iran says US is preparing to resume actions — Asharq Al-Awsat

Iran said it had received information about preparations by the United States, with the support of certain countries in the region, to resume actions against Tehran. Asharq Al-Awsat reports this, citing a statement by Iran’s central military command and state media.

Statement by the Iranian military

The Iranian military said that any US attack would trigger prolonged strikes against American bases and interests in the region. They also warned that Tehran would consider regional countries that support US aggression against Iran to be parties to the conflict.

As the outlet notes, the report came after US President Donald Trump on Saturday, September 19, cut short his stay at Camp David and unexpectedly returned to the White House.

Strait of Hormuz

On Sunday, September 20, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that Tehran would not open the Strait of Hormuz until Iran’s conditions and US commitments were fulfilled. According to him, Iran must fight and negotiate simultaneously, using military force to counter its opponents and diplomacy to consolidate gains on the battlefield when the appropriate time comes.
