Sweden will purchase $108 million worth of weapons for Ukraine from the U.S.

Sweden is allocating $108 million to support the PURL initiative, under which Ukrainian partners procure U.S. weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The ministry emphasized that the new funding is part of a previously announced support package for Ukraine and is aimed at rapidly strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.

Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson emphasized that the PURL mechanism allows Ukraine to quickly obtain critically important weapons from the United States.

“This is crucial for Ukraine to be able to defend itself against further attacks by Russia. Sweden’s support is long-term, comprehensive, and based on Ukraine’s needs,” Jonsson noted.

According to him, this primarily involves modern air defense systems and ammunition.

This is Sweden’s fourth round of funding under the PURL initiative. With this new contribution, the total amount of aid provided through this mechanism has reached $543 million.

The PURL initiative provides funding for the procurement of U.S. weapons for Ukraine at the expense of partner countries, which helps expedite the delivery of critically important systems and ammunition to the front lines.

This was reported by the Swedish Ministry of Defense.

As a reminder, on Wednesday, May 6, Norway announced that it would provide Ukraine with 2.8 billion Norwegian kroner (over $300 million) as part of NATO’s Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative for the procurement of U.S. weapons.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced an expansion of international support under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative. During the European Union summit in Cyprus, three countries joined the program, though their names have not been disclosed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also held a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during which the parties discussed the implementation of the PURL program and further efforts to secure support from partners.
