Sweden kept its interest rate at 1.75% and did not rule out a rate hike
In Sweden, the key interest rate was left unchanged at 1.75% at its seventh consecutive meeting. According to The Rio Times, a rate hike later this year is still possible. The country’s inflation rate stood at 0.7%.
European stock markets declined on August 20. The Euro STOXX 600 index lost 0.16% to close at 659.48 points. The German DAX fell by 0.23%, the French CAC 40 by 0.46%, and the British FTSE 100 by 0.10%.

The Italian FTSE MIB fell by 0.01%, while the Spanish IBEX 35 dropped by 0.05%. The Rio Times also reported that German bond yields reached a 15-year high.
The euro fell 0.20% against the U.S. dollar, to $1.1523 per euro. The British pound fell 0.10%, to $1.3491.
