Chinese President Xi Jinping may visit North Korea as early as next week.

“We have received intelligence indicating that President Xi Jinping will visit North Korea in the near future,” a senior South Korean official told the media.
Another official also stated that there is a high probability of Xi’s visit to the DPRK in late May or early June, citing Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Pyongyang in April and recent trips by Xi’s security and protocol staff to the North Korean capital.
During his meeting with Wang Yi, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed his readiness to strengthen high-level exchanges and expand the strategy of cooperation with Beijing, recalling his visit to China in 2025.
This year, the two countries are marking the 65th anniversary of the signing of a comprehensive cooperation agreement.
Xi’s possible visit to North Korea will also follow high-level talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing last week. During the talks, both leaders reaffirmed their shared goal of denuclearizing North Korea.
A separate government source stated that the Chinese leader may attempt to act as a mediator in relations between North Korea and the United States.
During his state visit to China in January, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung asked Xi to help mediate inter-Korean relations, and the Chinese leader responded positively to this request, the source said.
