Xi Jinping welcomes dialogue at UN headquarters marking GDI anniversary — ECNS

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to participants in a high-level dialogue marking the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), held at UN headquarters in New York, United States, on Friday. ECNS reports.

Xi Jinping's statement

In the letter, Xi Jinping described development as a constant theme of human society and a key factor in humanity's well-being. He recalled that he proposed the GDI at the UN General Assembly five years ago.

According to the Chinese leader, the initiative was intended to promote global cooperation in development, step up international efforts in this area, and accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Projects in more than 120 countries

Xi Jinping stated that over five years, projects under the GDI had taken root and delivered results in more than 120 countries. He linked this to the joint efforts of the parties and called the result a new stage of shared development and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Chinese leader also stated that China, as the largest developing country and a member of the Global South, is ready to work with other parties to advance the GDI. According to him, such work should be based on a people-centered approach and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
