Xi Jinping visits the Grand Egyptian Museum
Chinese President Xi Jinping, together with his wife Peng Liyuan, visited the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza on September 2. They were accompanied by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his wife Entissar el-Sisi, ECNS reports.
Tutankhamun exhibition
The heads of state and their wives viewed stone sculptures and stone pillars bearing inscriptions. They also looked at the pyramids from the museum's observation deck.
In the hall dedicated to Tutankhamun, Xi Jinping and el-Sisi viewed exhibits including the pharaoh's throne, a gold mask and royal chariots.

Leaders' statements
Xi Jinping said that China and Egypt are ancient civilizations and countries with many World Heritage sites. According to him, the two civilizations have maintained ties over time, complementing the history of friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
The Chinese president called on the sides to adhere to an approach based on the equality of civilizations, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness, as well as to implement the Global Civilization Initiative. He also called on China and Egypt to promote the coexistence and mutual learning of different civilizations.
El-Sisi thanked Xi for his congratulations on the museum's opening last year. According to him, ancient Egyptian and Chinese civilizations share openness, inclusiveness and harmonious coexistence in diversity. Egypt is ready to strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges with China, he said.
