Xi Jinping says China is ready for a ‘golden decade’ of relations with Uzbekistan
Chinese President Xi Jinping said during a meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Bishkek that China is ready to join Uzbekistan in ushering in a new “golden decade” of bilateral relations. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan, ECNS reports.
The statement was made in the year marking the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Uzbekistan. According to Xi Jinping, under the leadership of the two heads of state, bilateral ties have continued to develop, while cooperation in various fields has produced results.
Infrastructure and technology
The Chinese leader said he was ready to strengthen strategic mutual trust and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. He called for advancing the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway and expanding interaction in artificial intelligence and combating desertification.

Xi Jinping also advocated intensifying contacts at the local level, accelerating the establishment of cultural centres in each other’s countries, and developing cooperation in education and poverty alleviation. Separately, he called for using cooperation mechanisms between law enforcement and security agencies to combat terrorism, separatism and extremism.
Uzbekistan’s position
Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated that Uzbekistan would consistently develop relations with China. He expressed readiness to deepen political mutual trust, expand trade and investment, as well as cooperation in agriculture, transport, energy, mineral extraction, science and technology.
The Uzbek president reaffirmed his commitment to the one-China principle and said he was ready to work with China on developing the SCO. Xi Jinping, for his part, said that China and Uzbekistan, as founding states of the organisation, should jointly implement the outcomes of the Tianjin summit and promote the region’s development and prosperity.
