Xi Jinping says China-Russia relations will strengthen

Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the leader of the aggressor state, in Bishkek, said that the foundation of China-Russia relations would become stronger and their development more stable. The meeting took place on August 31 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. This was reported by ECNS.

According to Xi Jinping, during Putin's state visit to China in May, the leaders agreed to steer bilateral relations toward higher-quality and higher-level development, as well as deepen cooperation in various fields. He said that the relevant authorities of both countries were implementing the agreements reached, while exchanges and cooperation maintained active momentum.

Cooperation within the SCO

The Chinese leader noted that the international situation is seeing a growing number of uncertain and unpredictable factors. According to him, the SCO has an important task of maintaining regional stability and promoting development.

Xi Jinping said that China was ready, together with Russia and other parties, to determine the direction of the organisation's development, promote its steady progress, and strengthen the driving forces of global governance reform. He also advocated advancing an equal and orderly multipolar world.

Putin's statements

Putin said that Russia and China were deepening comprehensive strategic coordination and that their cooperation in various areas was developing rapidly. He expressed readiness to maintain high-level contacts and develop cooperation in trade, energy, industry, transport, science and technology, as well as humanitarian and cultural exchanges.

The Russian president also said he intended to strengthen coordination with China within the UN, BRICS and the G20, and support China's hosting of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. According to ECNS, the leaders of the two states also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
