Sybiga Discussed the Missile Incident in Poland with Sikorski

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga held talks with his Polish counterpart, Radosław Sikorski, after a Russian cruise missile violated Polish airspace. The two sides discussed the consequences of the incident and further steps in response to the threat from Russia.

During the conversation, Sibiga praised the Polish government’s response and assured the Polish minister of “Ukraine’s full solidarity with Poland.” 

“We are ready to provide all necessary assistance in investigating this incident. We agreed that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense shield must become an urgent priority for the entire Euro-Atlantic community,” he said.

During the conversation, Sybiga also proposed resuming negotiations with other allies on all possible ways to protect Ukraine’s airspace with the participation of partners. 

“This is not about charity, but about pragmatic solutions to strengthen our common security. I believe that today’s missile intrusion is also a stark reminder of the horrific reality facing both our countries: it is time to focus on countering the acute threats of the present, rather than on contentious debates about the past,” he noted.

In addition, the ministers noted the positive results of yesterday’s meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Donald Tusk and discussed the implementation of their agreements.

Sibiga spoke with Iran’s foreign minister for the first time.

Earlier, Tehran accused Ukraine of attacking an Iranian vessel at Israel’s behest.

On the night of July 29, Iran launched a missile strike on one of the U.S. military bases in the Middle East. This was the first attack since the parties announced last week that they would cease mutual strikes.
