Sibiga thanked Trump for signing the draconian sanctions against Russia
Ukraine reacted positively to U.S. President Donald Trump’s signing of sanctions against Russia and other countries on September 18. The media have described these sanctions as “devastating.”
“A truly historic day. Once again, the Kremlin’s calculations have failed. The pressure on Russia will only intensify, and Putin’s hopes of weakening international support for Ukraine will not be realized,” reads a post on social media by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga.
According to the minister, the signing of the law will increase pressure on Russia and those who are helping it wage war against Ukraine.
Sybiga believes that the new measures will further isolate Russia and reduce the resources Moscow uses to continue the war.
“President Trump’s signing of the Lindsey O. Graham Act ‘On Sanctions Against Russia and Iran’ will increase pressure on Russia and those who support its war against Ukraine. This will further isolate the aggressor and reduce the resources fueling its war,” he said.
The minister also highlighted the bill’s support in both chambers of the U.S. Congress. According to him, the overwhelming bipartisan support for the bill is an important signal regarding Washington’s future policy.
“This bill, passed thanks to overwhelming bipartisan support in both chambers of Congress, sends a clear message: the aggressor will pay a high price,” Sibiga noted.
As a reminder, on September 18, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a law imposing sanctions against Russia as an aggressor state.
Following the signing of the “hellish sanctions” bill, its practical implementation will become a key issue. Specifically, the bill allows for the imposition of tariffs of up to 100% on imports from countries that purchase significant volumes of Russian energy resources or facilitate the circumvention of sanctions.
Earlier, the U.S. imposed sanctions on the Iranian cryptocurrency exchange BitBank, which is controlled by Babak Zanjani, an Iranian financier subject to sanctions.
