Sikorsky proposed intercepting Russian missiles over Ukraine
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski emphasized the need for a serious discussion regarding the interception of Russian missiles directly within Ukrainian airspace.
According to him, Kyiv has been under ballistic missile attacks for several days in a row and lacks adequate protection against them, so it is better to shoot them down over Ukrainian territory than to wait for them to approach the Polish border. The diplomat stressed that this issue should not become a pawn in domestic political disputes.
Commenting on the prospects for a ceasefire, Sikorski noted that the United States should exert pressure specifically on Russia, not on Ukraine. He cited the passage of Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill—which would impose tariffs of up to 100% on the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas—as one of the key tools of influence, measures against Russia’s “shadow fleet,” and the expansion of sanctions against Iran. The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry also called on American negotiators to finally visit Kyiv, rather than making pilgrimages only to Moscow.

In Poland, during a massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine on the night of July 29–30, an air raid alert was issued in part of the Lublin Voivodeship. After the alert ended, a crater about 10 meters in diameter and debris from a Russian Kh-101 missile were discovered in a field near the villages of Tarnava-Kolonia and Tokary.
