Heavy rain floods areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in Pakistan — Dawn
Heavy morning rain in the Pakistani cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi flooded several central areas, underpasses and metrobus stations. The precipitation began at 8:40 a.m. and lasted about an hour, after which the air temperature dropped to 29 degrees Celsius, Dawn reports.
Flooding and power outages
Rainwater accumulated in the underpasses at Committee Chowk and Faizabad, as well as at metrobus stations. Workers from the Water and Sanitation Agency, Wasa, drained water from flooded areas during the day.
Electricity supplies were suspended in some areas due to the rain. Representatives of the energy company Iesco said that power supplies were stopped because of weather conditions. The district administration, Wasa, the civil defense service and the Rescue 1122 emergency service were on heightened alert in case of emergencies.

Rainfall amounts and forecast
The meteorological service recorded 3 mm of rainfall in Islamabad in Saidpur, Golra and the airport area, as well as 4 mm in Bokra and Zero Point. In Rawalpindi, 7 mm fell in Shamsabad, 10 mm in Kattarian, 1 mm in Pirwadhai, 3 mm in Gawalmandi and 2 mm in Kutchery.
According to meteorologists' forecast, clear weather is expected in the two cities over the next 24 hours. At the same time, moist air masses are moving into northern and central areas of Pakistan, while a western atmospheric wave is affecting the north of the country and is expected to persist until the following day.
Wasa chief Azizullah said that the water level in the Leh Nullah stream remained normal at 4.5 feet. According to him, the situation was kept under control thanks to the clearing of the channel before the monsoon season.
