Maduro's son noted that his father is being held in a cell with 18 other inmates

The son of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro—Congressman Nicolás Maduro Guerra—has stated that his father is being held in a New York prison in a shared cell with 18 other inmates.

This was reported by a leading Israeli media outlet.

According to him, about half of his cellmates speak Spanish, and Maduro himself allegedly communicates with them, watches TV, and studies English.

He also expressed concern about the conditions of detention, claiming that the former Venezuelan leader is accustomed to a healthy diet, whereas in prison he receives mostly processed food with high amounts of salt and carbohydrates.

In the U.S., Nicolás Maduro and his wife face charges, including drug trafficking, which he denies.

An American soldier earned $400,000 for classified information regarding Maduro’s detention.

Nicolás Maduro has served as president of Venezuela since 2013, following the death of Hugo Chávez, with whom he had a long-standing political partnership.

Maduro may be held in a special prison in New York during his trial
