Controversy in Germany: Bosnian migrant receives social benefits despite violations and deportation order

A high-profile scandal has erupted in Germany involving Huso B., a migrant from Bosnia who has repeatedly violated his residence status and is facing criminal charges, yet continues to receive social aid amounting to €87,000 per year. This issue highlights the difficulties in the German justice system to locate him and enforce his deportation.

Journalists uncovered that for twenty years courts have failed to serve Huso B. a summons, resulting in the suspension of fraud charges. His trial was scheduled for December 2025 but has stalled due to his absence. Authorities in Cologne launched an investigation, but prosecutors declined to issue an arrest warrant, citing the charges as insufficient grounds for detention.

Despite numerous infractions, Huso B. and his family of eight children receive approximately €7,250 monthly through social welfare, living rent-free in a hostel. This case raises concerns about the effectiveness of migrant oversight and social benefit controls in Germany.
