How Much Has Russia Earned Since Sanctions Were Eased — NYT

In April 2026, Russian budget revenues from oil taxes reached at least $12.8 billion, double the March figure.

This sharp jump in the aggressor’s revenues was made possible by the expiration of a temporary sanctions exemption previously imposed by the United States.

According to The New York Times, during the period when restrictions were eased, Moscow received over $100 million in additional revenue daily.

This financial inflow provided the Kremlin with significant resources to continue military operations and support the economy.

The temporary exemption from the sanctions regime was initiated by the White House, led by U.S. President Donald Trump.

This decision allowed for the free sale of Russian oil that was already on tankers in international waters at the time the restrictions were tightened.

The main goal of this move was to curb a sharp rise in global energy prices.

Due to instability in the Middle East, oil prices exceeded $100 per barrel, marking a 50% increase since late February.

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that the global oil market will reach its price peak within the next few weeks.

OPEC oil exports plummeted to a record low in March, according to Reuters.

As a reminder, oil remains above $100 following the resumption of Iraqi supplies.

Additionally, the price of oil could rise to $200 per barrel due to the war between the U.S. and Iran.
