Solar eclipse caused massive traffic jams in Bremen – Spiegel
A solar eclipse on Wednesday evening caused major traffic disruptions in Bremen, Germany, and required a large-scale police response. Hundreds of residents gathered in the Valle district near a popular observation deck, bringing traffic to a complete standstill due to the large number of pedestrians, cyclists, and cars.
According to law enforcement officials, traffic jams stretched all the way to the highway, where some drivers left their cars right in the lanes. In total, police recorded more than 110 traffic violations, of which about 80 involved creating hazardous conditions and parking on the autobahn and expressway.

The first photographs of the total phase of the solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, were captured over the Skorsby-Sunn Fjord in Greenland. The images were taken from the deck of the MS Spitsbergen, which was participating in an HX Expeditions cruise to observe the eclipse.
During a live broadcast of the solar eclipse on August 12, NASA displayed a map on which the temporarily occupied Crimea was marked as part of Russia. This sparked outrage due to the inaccurate depiction of Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders.
