UN envoy Diagne calls peace in Cyprus a shared responsibility — Cyprus Mail
UN Special Representative in Cyprus Hassim Diagne said that achieving peace on the island remains a shared responsibility. In a statement marking the International Day of Peace, he also noted the role of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, Cyprus Mail reports.
Dialogue and mutual respect
According to Diagne, peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but a shared commitment to dialogue, mutual respect and cooperation. He stressed that differences must be resolved through peaceful means.
The UN representative reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to a peaceful future for all Cypriots. He noted that the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus has been on the island for more than six decades, helping maintain stability, facilitate dialogue and create conditions for a comprehensive settlement.

Role of the peacekeeping mission
Diagne welcomed the continued engagement of Cypriot leaders, civil society, youth, women and the island’s communities. According to him, the UN mission continues to carry out its mandate in the service of peace and the people of Cyprus.
He added that investing in peace means investing in dialogue, trust and understanding, and that every act of cooperation and effort to overcome differences contributes to a culture of peace.
