The U.S. sees an opportunity to end the conflict with Iran — Sky News
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the standoff with Iran is entering the "home stretch" and announced the possibility of direct talks.
His remarks were quoted by Sky News.
Official Washington is counting on a diplomatic resolution to the situation in the Middle East in the foreseeable future.
The administration, led by U.S. President Donald Trump, is currently working actively to de-escalate tensions in the region. Marco Rubio emphasized that the path to peace has already been laid out, although it will not be immediate.
“It’s not today, it’s not tomorrow, but it’s coming,” the head of U.S. diplomacy assured. According to him, the U.S. sees a real prospect for ending the long-standing conflict.
An important aspect of the current strategy is establishing communication channels between Washington and Tehran. Currently, the parties are exchanging messages, which indicates a willingness to engage in some form of dialogue.
The U.S. Secretary of State also noted that messages are being exchanged between Iran and the U.S. and that there is a possibility of a “face-to-face meeting at some point” between the two sides. This could be a decisive step toward stabilization.
It is worth noting that Washington’s position remains firm yet flexible regarding the achievement of strategic calm.
U.S. President Donald Trump has previously emphasized on multiple occasions the priority of ending “endless wars.”
Recall that Rubio spoke of divisions within Iran’s leadership.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also stated that among the goals of the U.S. war against Iran are the destruction of the Iranian navy and air force, as well as strikes on missile and drone factories. His list differs from what other administration officials have previously cited.
