US preparing criminal charges against Venezuela’s acting president linked to PDVSA case

The US government is drafting a confidential criminal indictment against Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela’s acting president, connected to allegations involving the state oil company PDVSA. This move is part of the Trump administration’s efforts to turn Rodríguez into a puppet leader, according to Reuters citing four sources.

The indictment is being prepared by the Miami prosecutor’s office, which has been investigating for two months. The probe focuses on alleged money laundering related to PDVSA from 2021 to 2025 involving Rodríguez. Prosecutors have warned her of potential criminal prosecution if she fails to comply with US demands following the removal of former president Nicolás Maduro. Cases are also being examined against her allies, their family members and other officials who might be detained in Venezuela and possibly extradited.

This development highlights the tense relations between the US and Venezuelan authorities and signals possible further legal actions against the country’s leadership amid ongoing struggles over political control and resources.
